Supernatural the Party Game

Posted by : Rob Justice | On : October 6, 2009

Supernatural the Party Game is a variant game inspired by Mafia (Werewolf, Assassin, or a billion other names for the same game) where you take control of characters from the Supernatural TV Series. There are two teams, Hunters and Demons, both vying for control of the world. There is a sort of third team, this team eventually picks a side but they start off as neutral.

Roles

The following are the teams and characters available for play in this game along with their special rules.

Hunters

Sam Winchester - Can protect one character every Hunter round.
Dean Winchester - Can kill one character every Hunter round.
John Winchester - During the Day cycle John can shoot one character, if that character is Azazel then the Hunters win.
Bobby Singer - Can tell if someone is a Hunter or Demon every Hunter round.

Demons

Azazel - Can protect one character every Demon round.
Ruby - Can kill one character every Demon round.
Lilith - During the Day cycle Lilith can kill one character, if that character is Sam then the Demons win.
Meg Masters - Can tell if someone is a Hunter or Demon every Demon round.

Neutrals

Gordon Walker - Can kill one character every game, Gordon Walker joins the opposite team of the character he kills.
Crossroads Demon - Can return one character from the dead every game, the Crossroads Demon joins the team of the character they return.

Non-Roles

Controller- Not a role per say, but you need someone to run this game. Tell people when to open or close their eyes and announce what happened.

How the Game Works

Rounds go back and forth between Hunters and Demons, Days and Nights. The game starts with the Demons going first. Ruby is asked to open her eyes, pick one character to kill, and then close her eyes.. Then Azazel is asked to open his eyes, pick one character to protect, then close his eyes. Meg is then asked to open her eyes, is allowed to find out if one character is a Hunter or a Demon, then is asked to close her eyes. Then Gordon opens his eyes and is offered the chance to kill someone a join and team before closing his eyes again  Since no one is dead on the first round the Crossroads Demon doesn’t get to go.

Everyone is asked to open their eyes and the victim(s) are announced. Unlike normal Mafia you do not reveal what character you are upon death, only the Crossroads Demon gets to know that, unless your Dean or Ruby. If either Dean or Ruby die then the game is over and the other team wins.

The players are allowed to discuss things, the Hunters are up next and Dean is going to get to kill someone. Now is the time to start convincing Dean who to kill. Its during this time that John or Lilith may act, killing any other character. Once they kill someone then their roles (John or Lilith) are revealed. If John kills Azazel then the game is over and the Hunters win, if Lilith kills Sam then the game is over and the Demon win. If either character acts but fails to kill the correct target the game continues but everyone now knows who they are. The character killed by John or Lilith remains secret unless its Dean or Ruby or John killed Azazel or Lilith killed Sam. After a few minutes (controller decides when this round is over, we suggest two-three minutes) have passed everyone is asked to close there eyes and its the Hunters turn.

This is important, even the dead characters close their eyes. The dead don’t get to know who everyone is. Only the Crossroads Demon gets to see who the dead are in order to choose who to return to life. If your dead, when the controller tells everyone to close their eyes then that means you too. Also, the dead don’t get to talk. Remember that, keep your dead mouth shut.

Dean is asked to open his eyes, pick one character to kill, then closes his eyes. Then Sam is asked to open his eyes, pick one character to protect, then close his eyes. Bobby is then asked to open his eyes, is allowed to find out if one character is a Hunter or a Demon, then has to close his eyes. If Gordon hasn’t picked a team then he is asked to open his eyes and is offered the chance to kill someone and join a team before closing his eyes again. Last the Crossroads Demon is asked to open her eyes and the dead characters show her their cards. The Crossroads Demon then picks who they want to save and returns that character to the game, then the Crossroads Demon joins that team and closes her eyes.

The game continues like that, round after round, until either Dean or Ruby are killed or John kills Azazel or Lilith kills Sam. Once  Gordon or the Crossroads Demon uses their power they have nothing else to do. They just get to sit back and hope they chose wisely. Good luck, and have fun!

This game is made to run with up to 11 people (10 players and 1 controller) but it can be scaled down. The game can not be ran without Dean or Ruby but the rest of the characters can be dropped or added in as needed. Try to keep the starting Hunter & Demon teams even, if you have an odd number of players use either Gordon or the Crossroads Demon. Also, more Characters might be introduced at a later date.

  1. [...] Supernatural the Party Game is a variant game inspired by Mafia (Werewolf, Assassin, or a billion other names for the same game) where you take control of characters from the Supernatural TV Series. The game was originally drafted here but some more ideas for expanding the character deck have occurred.  We now introduce a new Hunter and Demon, a new team of Angels, and two new Neutral cards.
