Danger Close: Expertise and Priorities

Posted by : Rob Justice | On : July 23, 2010

Continuing coverage of Danger Close, today we present the next part of Character Creation. Experts and Priorities are the little details you need to make use of your Area, Traits, Assets, and Equipment. Enjoy.

Expertise

Your Agent is considered to be an Expert in whatever is their highest Area. If you have two Areas that are tied for highest then you must pick one to be the Expert of. There can be multiple Experts on the same team but the Areas special effect can be triggered only once per game. Again, once per game, an Expert can trigger his Areas “special effect.” Each Area gets one and it can only be triggered once per game. That means, even if you have multiple Aries, the special effect can only be triggered once per game. Triggering these effects requires the Agent to spend an Agent Point.

Priorities

At Character Creation you need to decide what your Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary attributes are. For your Primary you get 18 points to spend towards increasing those attributes. For your Secondary you get 12 points and for your Tertiary you get 6. Since all three areas increase at the same rate and give the same amount of bonus dice the really difference comes down to Agent style. Do you want to be highly trained? Then make Traits your Primary. Do you want to have the most and best gadgets? Sounds like Primary Equipment. No matter what you want to focus on there are only six possible permutations and they are listed below.

Priority Permutations

  • 18 Trait Points, 12 Asset Points, 6 Equipment Points
  • 18 Trait Points, 6 Asset Points, 12 Equipment Points
  • 12 Trait Points, 18 Asset Points, 6 Equipment Points
  • 12 Trait Points, 6 Asset Points, 18 Equipment Points
  • 6 Trait Points, 18 Asset Points, 12 Equipment Points
  • 6 Trait Points, 12 Asset Points, 18 Equipment Points
